Linda Soh Trengereid (b. Seoul, South Korea, 1984) grew up on Sotra, an island outside Bergen. She lives and works in Bergen, where she completed a Master in Fine Arts from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in 2011.
Trengereid works mainly with painting and drawing—usually somewhere in between—using charcoal and acrylic on raw canvas.
The result is a hybrid; the aesthetic often parallels hand-colored photographs and graphic art, yet retains painterly and drawing-like qualities. Her working process is slow and meticulous, ranging from the planned and predictable to the intuitive. She works in series across varying formats, from large-scale pieces that engage with the surrounding space to smaller works. Her subjects are drawn from private photographs—often detailed images of places she has visited or lived. Many of her motifs feature people—or human-like figures—and nature, referencing art-historical landscape traditions as well as fantasy and science fiction. She uses her paintings to explore her background as an adoptee, while also attempting to move beyond her personal history. She is interested in exploring themes such as belonging, heritage, environment, and inner versus outer landscapes.
Trengereid has held solo exhibitions at Høyersten Contemporary in Bergen, QB Gallery in Oslo, Galleri LNM in Oslo, Kunstgarasjen in Bergen, and Voss Kulturhus. She has participated in the Vevring Exhibition, the Western Norway Exhibition (Vestlandsutstillingen), the Autumn Exhibition (Høstutstillingen), as well as numerous group exhibitions.
Her works have been acquired by Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum, Kode (Art Museums of Bergen), Stavanger Art Museum, Haukeland University Hospital, the University of Bergen, and Fana Cultural Centre.
